Greetings from Tucson, Arizona!

The Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and the Blind is proud to announce the 5th Annual Berg/Seeger Track & Field Classic on April 20-21, 2012 at ASDB’s Tucson campus. We are honored to host this special event as this will occur during our 100th anniversary of ASDB’s establishment.  This classic is open to all Deaf HS athletes attending schools for the Deaf and mainstreamed schools in the United States. The purpose for this classic is to promote interest in track and field among Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing high school athletes. The three Co-Coordinators for the Berg/Seeger 2012 event are: Ms. Laura Edwards, Mr. Gerald Brown, and Mr. Brandon Decker.   The point of contact (POC) will be Laura Edwards and she can be reached at laura.edwards@asdb.az.gov.

ASDB will provide meals, hospitality rooms, housing and track/field facilities usage. Meals will start with breakfast, lunch and dinner on Friday; breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and boxed breakfast on Sunday.  Your school will be responsible for supervision of your teams in the residence halls, cafeteria and during the meet. Schools are encouraged to fly into Tucson International Airport (TIA).  Transportation by ASDB will be provided to and from TIA only.  Should your school fly into Phoenix, you will need to prepare your own transportation.  Please note that there will be preliminaries and a few events going on Friday evening starting as early as 6:00PM PST.  On Saturday, at the John Milford Field, awards for the Berg-Seeger will be presented to top three finishers as well as top teams in both boys and girls groups. Top athlete awards will be voted and honored.

USA Deaf Track & Field (USADTF) will also use this event as an opportunity to give the students exposure to events in the future for USA Deaf athletes, such as the World Deaf Athletics Championships to be in held in Toronto, Canada in 2012 and at the Summer Deaflympics in 2013.

More information on guidelines, schedule of events, forms, hotel, and team rosters will be provided soon.  Please confirm your intention to participate to Laura Edwards by March 1, 2012.  Dorm availability will be based on first come, first served basis.  When the dorms are at full occupancy, you will need to book your own hotel rooms.

From Arizona, we wish you all the best wishes and we look forward to the Fifth Annual Berg/Seeger Classic at the Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and the Blind.

Sincerely,

Nancy Hlibok Amann                                                 Laura Edwards
